obs landscape architects was founded in 1994 by Brian H. Starkey, PLA / ASLA. Upon his return to Raleigh, following three years of working and studying in the Netherlands, Brian coupled his experiences and education to frame the vision for the practice of landscape architecture at obs.

With each project, we endeavor to create a sense of place, promote sustainable solutions and advocate for the health and well-being of communities. Through our practice, we have consistently strengthened our commitment to solutions that connect people to place and protect the natural environment.

obs has developed a diverse portfolio of projects for corporate, private, institutional, non-profit and public clients. This diversity is testimony to the strength of our process.

Our planning and design process is built around a core set of values and collaboration. These values require an understanding of natural systems, recognition of cultural context, a vigorous pursuit of creative solutions and a focus on providing responsive services.

Our process emphasizes collaboration and is designed specifically for each project to address the owner’s specific goals, respond to community needs and reach informed solutions. This commitment to collaboration enables us to successfully complete complex projects and resolve competing interests.
