obs has been involved with three branch libraries for the Wake County Library system and also completed plans for the Chapel Hill Library expansion.
Wake County branches in Zebulon and Wake Forest were planned in association with other county facilities while the Leesville Branch Library was planned in conjunction with a City of Raleigh community park. The project preserved the history of a former farmstead including an existing family cemetery, building elements and a well.
The expansion of the Chapel Hill Library necessitated a variety of site improvements including the design of outdoor public spaces, inclusion of storm water management facilities, expanded parking and accessibility improvements. Located within Pritchard Park, care was taken to integrate the expansion and minimize disturbance to the natural environment. Extensive storm water bio-ponds were planted with native plant materials to establish a transition from the built environment to the natural woodlands surrounding the library.
