The master plan for the North Wake Landfill illustrates the transformation of this 360 acre property following closure in 2007. The master plan identified future uses including an elementary school, a community park, and a variety of recreational, athletic and community facilities. obs led the community based planning process, which was attended by hundreds of community members and worked very closely with Wake County, the Wake County Public School System, City of Raleigh, and the community to reach final master plan recommendations.
Since the Master Plan’s completion, obs prepared plans for the North Wake Landfill District Park and improvements to Convenience Center #7. The park was completed in 2009. Improvements at the convenience center are directed at increasing capacity, improving customer convenience, and maximizing flexibility for the collection, processing, storage and transportation of selected materials. Facility improvements also redefine traffic flow, incorporate security measures, implement sustainable storm water management solutions and aesthetic enhancements.
