Playwell Park at the Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education offers children and adults an active play experience that also connects them to and raises their awareness about health and choices that result in healthy active lifestyles. The playground includes several exhibits / play structures that deliver messages about nutrition, sun protection, the importance of exercise and those choices that influence our health. The design process included work sessions with children ages 6-14 to develop ideas for the playground as well as staff from the Poe Center, the Natural Learning Initiative, Smart Start and Wake County. The Poe Center is visited by 40,000 school children each year and the playground is also available for use by the public.
